One-Day Wheel Throwing Workshop- 10/9

Calendar Oct 9, 2024 at 3 pm, runs for 1 week

In this beginner friendly class students will learn some basics of wheel throwing and learn how to successfully make a bowl. I will give a small talk and demo at the at the beginning of the lesson, then students will have 3.5 hours to create their bowl(s). For the last 10-20 minutes of the class students will choose their favorite/ best bowl that will be the most successful for the processes that come after wheel throwing, as well as choosing a glaze for their piece. Students can expect their pieces to be finished and ready to pick up 4- 8 weeks after their class. 

Note: tools and clay will be provided,but please bring a towel or smock and wear clothes that can get messy.

Acrylic Painting (3-D Classroom)

This five-week course led by artist Kelley Cappell will introduce you to the beauty of acrylic painting and help you to create several finished compositions. A focus on simple subject matter such as florals, landscapes, paint pouring, and still life ensures that you can confidently learn and practice basic acrylic techniques. 

No previous art experience is required. for adults 16+ 

What students will need for the course:

  • Five, 9" x 12" or 11" x 14" primed canvas panels. 
  • Set of student grade acyrilic paint (minimum of red, blue, yellow, black, and white).
  • Brush set (multiple size for painting).

*If a repeat session is offered, it could be ongoing for students to continue their projects.

Make your own Halloween Stuffie (North Classroom) (Ages 7 - 11)

This class will teach students how to make their own unique artistic HALLOWEEN themed stuffie by learning to hand sew monster and stuffed animal toys!

Students will explore their own creativity and imagination in this two hour workshop. This is a great class for students of 7 - 11, as it requires both creativity and fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and problem solving.  

  • Students will turn their own 2-D drawings into 3 -D stuffies.
  • Students will learn basic sewing skills, learn how to hand sew!

Students will be guided to create their own one of a kind stuffed animal and leave with new art skills.  This will be a fun two hour workshop for beginners. 

*All materials are included. Class can be repeated to build skills. Sewing safety skills will be practiced at all times.

Brush Up on The Art Masters Series 3 (3-D Classroom)

Discover the secrets of the Contemporary Master Artists: O'Keeffe, Warhol, Grant Wood, Rockwell.  In this 2 hr, exciting one day class, learn about their lives and what motivated and inpired them to creative stardom. After discussion, students have an opportunity to choose a piece to replicate and enjoy sketching, painting and creating in this well loved style guided by a instructor.

Enjoy a friendly atmosphere while creating you own masterpiece.

Invite friends and family... all ages and skill level welcome.  Students under age 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

No prerequisites necessary.

All materials supplied by WSS. 

 

One Day Handbuilding Workshop- 10/14

This class is a great way to get your hands on clay! This beginner friendly class students will create a mug or cup using handbuilding techniques, students will have about 3.5 hours to create and decorate their piece using stamps and other surface design techniques. I will give a small talk and demo at the beginning of the lesson, then students will have time to create their cup or mug. I will have a template for them to work with and cut out with clay to make their cup or mug. For the last 10- 20 min of the class we will have a small discussion on what processes happen after creating their piece and they will then choose a glaze for their piece. Students can expect their work to be finished and ready for pick up 4-8 weeks after their class.

Note: tools and clay will be provided, but please bring a towel or smock and wear clothes that you can get messy.

Feathered Friends: Birders Drawing & Watercolor Workshop for ages 9 - 14(North Classroom)

Calling all bird lovers! Enjoy the arrival of our feathered friends this Fall. Join this fun introduction level two week watercolor pencil and drawing class.  

Each week students will identify, journal, sketch, and add color to new works of art. Learn bird anatomy, feather patterns, traits and habitats while enjoying a fun adventure to Birdland!

Learn the step by step basics of drawing stunning, realistic birds who live in our area. Each student will learn to draw birds using watercolor pencil and watercolor paint. 

*Students will also learn traits, habits and migration in this wonderful world of birds class.

 Supplies needed for first week of class:

  • Small Sketchbook
  • 2 HB pencils
  • Watercolor paper or pad
  • Small water container
  • All reference bird guide helpful

For Ages 9-14 + interested in bird study.
