Acrylic Painting (North Classroom)

Calendar Apr 17, 2024 at 6:30 pm, runs for 5 weeks

This five-week course led by artist Kelley Cappell will introduce you to the beauty of acrylic painting and help you to create several finished compositions. A focus on simple subject matter such as florals, landscapes, paint pouring, and still life ensures that you can confidently learn and practice basic acrylic techniques. 

No previous art experience is required. for adults 16+ 

What students will need for the course:

  • Five, 9" x 12" or 11" x 14" primed canvas panels. 
  • Set of student grade acrylic paint (minimum of red, blue, yellow, black, and white).
  • Brush set (multiple size for painting).

*If a repeat session is offered, it could be ongoing for students to continue their projects and refine skills.

Feathered Friends: Birders Drawing & Watercolor Workshop for ages 9 - 14(North Classroom)

Calling all bird lovers! Enjoy the arrival of our feathered friends this Spring. Join this fun introduction level two week watercolor pencil and drawing class.  

Each week students will identify, journal, sketch, and add color to new works of art. Learn bird anatomy, feather patterns, traits and habitats while enjoying a fun adventure to Birdland!

Learn the step by step basics of drawing stunning, realistic birds who live in our area. Each student will learn to draw birds using watercolor pencil and watercolor paint. 

*Students will also learn traits, habits and migration in this wonderful world of birds class.

 Supplies needed for first week of class:

  • Small Sketchbook
  • 2 HB pencils
  • Watercolor paper or pad
  • Small water container
  • All reference bird guide helpful

For Ages 10 - 14 + interested in bird study.

Expressive Abstract Painting (3 - D Classroom) 16+

Think, draw, and paint expressively in this four-session course

No class May 25th, class will resume the following week.

Do you want to loosen up, and paint more expressively, intuitively, and abstractly with confidence?

This four-week course led by Artist and local Art Educator, Lacy Foy will introduce you to the beauty of freeform/abstract/expressive mark acrylic painting and help you to create several finished compositions.

A focus on simple art concepts such as color, expressive mark making, physical movement, and other Elements and Principles of Composition, while tapping into your subconscious, intuitive brain ensures that you can confidently learn and practice basic expressive abstract acrylic techniques.

No previous art experience is required. for adults 18+

*If a repeat session is offered, it could be ongoing for students to continue their projects and refine skills.

During the course, you’ll be encouraged to try new things as a way to experience artistic breakthroughs! 

Please Purchase the following art supplies before your first class:

  • One 11" x 14" or larger Mixed Media Paper Pad 
  • Set of student grade acrylic paint (minimum of red, blue, yellow, black, and white)75 mL
  •  Larger Brush set (multiple sizes for painting).
  • One roll painter's tape.

Optional supplies: Your instructor, Lacy Foy will discuss these in person at first session.

  • Paint Markers (Posca Preferred)
  • Fluorescent Paint Set
  • Metallic Paint Set or Paint Markers,
  • Washi Tape,
  • Collaging Items 
  • old rags and towels for cleaning the paint brushes
  • alternative tools to paint with
  • sharpie markers for collage items,
  • a journal for documenting helpful "in progress" critique discussions, a pencil and other items you may want to incorporate into your work.
