Adobe Illustrator - Private Instruction

Whether you're a novice, need help with a special project, or wish to sharpen your skill with Illustrator you can learn how to create original vector illustrations. Instruction will cover object drawing tools, colors, layers, templates, pathfinder, the oh-so-difficult pen tool, and more! Instruction will follow a lesson plan, or can be customized to your needs. 

Fee includes three hours of private instruction (typically split it into two, 1.5 hr. sessions) - times to be arranged directly with the instructor. Students must provide their own laptop and software  https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/plans.html

Your instructor, Lisa Youngdahl, is a graphic designer with over 30 years of experience and a Resident Artist at Water Street Studios. 

She is the owner of Resolution Creative and has 15 years of experience teaching digital/graphic design at the College of DuPage, Waubonsee Community College, and Elgin Community College. She is currently an instructor at Elmhurst University.

Acrylic Painting (North Classroom)

This five-week course led by artist Kelley Cappell will introduce you to the beauty of acrylic painting and help you to create several finished compositions. A focus on simple subject matter such as florals, landscapes, paint pouring, and still life ensures that you can confidently learn and practice basic acrylic techniques. 

No previous art experience is required. for adults 16+ 

What students will need for the course:

  • Five, 9" x 12" or 11" x 14" primed canvas panels. 
  • Set of student grade acyrilic paint (minimum of red, blue, yellow, black, and white).
  • Brush set (multiple size for painting).

*If a repeat session is offered, it could be ongoing for students to continue their projects and refine skills.

Classic Watercolor Painting and Pencil Techniques - Exploration of Spring Flowers (North Classroom)

Capture a Spring flower from seed, sprout to fading flower in this 4 week art journey in nature study. Each week students will explore painting and drawing a different phase of the spring flower.

 Students will be guided on a journey to learn watercolor techniques, and celebrate spring by studying flowers!

Color washes, color mixing, and application will be developed so each student can explore their own style of painting with watercolor! Each class is designed to focus on learning and applying techniques used with watercolor.

This watercolor class is for anyone interested in learning the step by step basics of Watercolor painting. 

Each week will be another adventure into the beautiful world of Watercolor painting! Class will meet for four weeks.

Please purchase basic watercolor supplies needed for first class:

  • Sketchbook (Your choice of size)
  • 2B Pencil
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Roll of masking tape
  • Watercolor Pad 9 X 12 inch (cold press)
  • Basic Water Color paint set (Winsor Newton) 
  • Palette

  • Foamboard for mounting paper

Jumpstart your Creative Writing (North Classroom) *new class

Have you ever wanted to learn different ways to approach creative writing?

Here is your chance, join this four-week workshop and get started with your own creative writing projects. This four-week class will be taught by experienced writing instructors Barbara Barrows and Eric Bodwell. 

In this course, participants will explore four different methods for accessing their creativity and generating new writing. 

The methods will include:

  • Mining your life and experiences
  • Responding to art
  • Working with constraints
  • Remixing source material to create new creative works!

This class is for everyone 14+ who wants to learn the art of creative writing. Students, please purchase and bring a writing notebook, and a pen to the first class. 

Each class, students will use creative prompts, exercises, discussion, and examples to create short pieces that might lead to journal entries, poems, personal essays, and/ or short fiction.

Yoga & Intuitive Watercolor & Ink Workshop( Main Gallery & North Classroom)

Are you ready to relax and create?

Find your bliss in this weekend workshop led by artist and yogini Lacy Foy will assist you in basic Hatha/Vinyasa workshop with intuitive watercolor painting to follow. After sketching and opening up to flow source energy, students will explore their own unique creativity and imagination in this two and a half hour guided meditative workshop.

This is a great class for adults wanting to unwind and explore the beauty of loving and making time for themselves to new inner found ways of painting and drawing. 

No previous artmaking experience is required. for adults 18+

Suitable for all levels. Art supplies provided. Students, please wear comfy clothes, bring water, yoga mat, and yoga block(optional)

Class will begin with 45 minutes of yoga in the beautiful main gallery at Water Street Studios and then transitions to a relaxing watercolor and ink session session for the remainder of class. Students will leave with completed watercolor and ink projects.

Wings and Flight: Full STEAM Ahead Kids Workshop Series(North Classroom)

Does your child love Science and Art? Join this one day STEAM workshop for kids 7- 11.

As part of a series of STEAM related art activities, this class combines creative thinking, problem solving and cooperative learning as students use simple materials to design, build and test their flying machines.

Students are given the materials and attachment techniques will be explored. Then they are allowed to come up with any solution that works, through trial and error, to create their own flying machines. Students will bring their creations home.

      Students should bring to class their imagination and curiosity!
