Drawing for Young Artists (age 12-16)

Calendar Jun 5, 2021 at 12 pm, runs for 4 weeks

Being able to draw is the basis of any art form. In this class, young artists will explore their abilities and learn how to plan, compose, and draw a completed still life. Choose to either work from life or from a photograph. Using charcoal pencil on toned paper, focus on developing your fundamental skills while creating a successful piece with full value and correct perspective. Your final piece is sure to be a frame-worthy work of art. Course#  DRW104.321.01

What you will need for this course:

  • One Nitram Charcoal starter kit (sandpaper block, H stick, HB stick, B stick)
  • One kneaded eraser
  • One HB pencil
  • One sketchbook (minimum 9”x12”)

Ceramics for Young Artists (age 12-16)

Learn how to throw, trim, glaze, and decorate. This class just for young artists meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for four weeks to concentrate on wheel throwing while also creating a few hand-built projects along the way. Course# CER106.321.05

Designed for young artists, age 12-16. Clay and gaze are included.

For safety, enrollment is limited and masks are required.

Manga for Young Artists (age 12-16)

Learn how to draw comics in the Japanese Manga style! In this five-week course, you’ll learn about the tools of a manga artist and how to create your own manga comic. During class, you’ll focus on facial features, as well as anatomy, action poses, and background. Then, complete your piece by placing your character into manga comic panels. A Sense of Perspective for Young Artists (age 12-16)

Getting perspective right can be one of the more “intimidating” art skills to master. But it does not have to be. Join Kristin Schimmel as she leads you through a multi-disciplinary look at perspective. Working on linear and curvilinear perspectives, you’ll further your artistic skills by experimenting with texture and composition using pencil, ink, and watercolor.

Acrylic Painting for Young Artists (age 12-16)

This five-week course for young artists led by artist Kelley Cappell will introduce you to the beauty of acrylic painting and help you to create several finished compositions. A focus on simple subject matter such as florals, landscapes, and still life ensures that you can confidently learn and practice basic acrylic techniques. Course# PNT107.321.01

Note: Designed for ages 12-16. No previous art experience is required. All supplies are provided. 9" x 12" canvases will be provided. Students may bring in larger canvases if desired. 

 

Creative Collage for Young Artists (age 12-16)

Explore the potential of collage art. Using paper, paint, pencil, pen, and random three-dimensional objects, you’ll work on abstract painting collage, different ways of creating portrait collage, and a large cityscape final project that will broaden your imaginative and conceptual knowledge of this under-appreciated art form.

Abstract Painting for Young Artists (age 12-16)

Learn about Abstract Expressionist style painting while developing your own self-expression. Some projects will mimic Abstract Expressionist artists, while others will focus on the challenging work of conceptualizing your personal vision. Just like the artists of the movement, you can engage in discussions and brainstorm concepts and projects. Come prepared to share your favorite artist and work of the Abstract Expressionist movement!
