Let Art Speak to You – Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop(North Classroom)

Join Instructor Carly Palmer for a unique poetry + collage workshop!

Students will be invited to write their own ekphrasis poetry inspired by well-known artworks.

Ekphrastic poetry has come to be defined as poems written about works of art; however, in ancient Greece, the term ekphrasis was applied to the skill of describing a thing with vivid detail. In addition to the descriptions of a work of art, an ekphrastic poem usually includes an exploration of how the speaker is impacted by his or her experience with the work.

Materials will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their favorite writing pen and notebook.

No experience is necessary. Just bring an open mind to sit with any & all with possibilities!

Looking for a fun, creative and relaxing evening? Join us for a family event, creating a beautiful artwork piece here in Water Street Studios with our instructor Maria Ananieva (@mimiartsstudio). The painting is suitable for both children and adults, as it is simple and has a fun theme! 

In this painting workshop you will create your own unique piece! We provide all the materials and instruct you step-by-step to create a beautiful piece for your home or perfect for a gift.  This is a great way to RELAX! One drink Included in price. 

An extra selection of beverages and seasonal cocktails are  available for purchase in our studio. Please arrive a little early, as we will begin the workshop promptly at the start time. This is a one night workshop.

Masks are required. Tables will be spaced out.

Fashion Design and Illustration for Teens (Ages 13 - 18)(North Classroom)

Calendar Jun 2, 2022 at 3 pm, runs for 5 weeks

Students will learn how to draw their own fashion illustrations and design their very own collection! Juliana will give step-by-step instructions on how to draw a proportional basic fashion figure. She will then help her students develop their own figures - whose unique style, body types, and poses fit their own design aesthetics.They will then learn how to render different fabrics and silhouettes, drawing from other designers' work and their own creations.

Week 1: Draw a croquis/basic fashion body

Week 2: Developing unique figures; including faces, hair, proportions, and poses

Week 3: Rendering different prints and textiles

Week 4: How fabric lays on the body, drawing a real runway design

Week 5: Designing your own outfits          

 What students will need to bring to first class:

  • Eraser
  • 2B Pencil
  • Artist marker set (ex: copic, blick studio, prisma color)
  • Multimedia sketchbook 11' X14' or larger
  • 05 Micron Pen

Saturday Still-life Open Studio & Paint Session (for 16+) South Classroom

Practice your drawing and painting skills in the Water Street Studio Classrooms!  Join us for a relaxing afternoon of sketching and painting and meeting other artists at Water Street Studios. Bring a friend and make some new ones.  This is open studio time for practicing drawing and painting in the WSS studio space, it is non instructional.

We provide: * An interesting still life set up * Basic drawing supplies * Drawing paper * Photo references * Table easel's* Free coffee!*

Bring your own favorite art supplies as needed.

This non-instructional, 2-hour session will allow you to explore artmaking  alone or with a group of art friends!

This class will have short presentation on Matisse, followed by collage making workshop. Class held at local brewery Art History Brewing!

Collaging offers a way to re-purpose & re-imagine materials. It also creates connections between disparate images & ideas to tell a new story

Instructor Carly Palmer will present a short overview on the work of American modernist painter Georgia O'Keeffe, who is famous for her large flower paintings, new york skyscrapers, and southwestern landscapes.  Students will then use O' Keeffe as inspiration to generate their own new art!
