A Taste of Glass Bead Making

Curious about glass beads? In this sampler workshop, you’ll explore the ancient, yet simple Venetian technique of melting and layering Italian soft glass in a 2000° flame to create your own one-of-a-kind glass beads. Course# GLS100.321.01

Note: For ages 16 and above. Fee includes all tools, glass, use of a torch, and safety materials. 

For safety, this workshop is limited to three (3) participants and masks are required.

Simple Glass Pendant Workshop

Glass sparkles and shines like no other material. With your instructor’s guidance, learn to melt borosilicate glass using a propane/oxygen torch and create colorful glass pendants. Flamework experience is helpful but not necessary. Course# GLS102.321.01

Note: For ages 16 and above. Please wear natural fiber clothing, closed-toe shoes, and pull long hair away from the face. Pieces will be available for pickup in 48 hours.

For safety, enrollment is limited and masks are required.

Portrait Drawing Workshop

Become confident drawing portraits in this popular four-session workshop designed for students with some drawing experience. 

Working from photographs with graphite and charcoal, use the “sight-size method” to create a realistic, classical portrait. Learn how to plan out a successful portrait drawing and how to avoid common errors.

Demos, handouts, and critiques guide your learning as you complete a self-portrait (or a portrait of a loved one) on toned paper to take home. You’re encouraged to enhance your work by adding meaningful elements to your portrait, such as an object that is important to you (or your subject). Course#DRW103.321.01

What you will need for the workshop:

  1. Nitram Charcoal sticks, HB & H (5-pack)
  2. 1 HB pencil
  3. 1 General’s White Charcoal pencil
  4. 1 Kneaded eraser
  5. 1 Sandpaper block for sharpening charcoal
  6. 1 small lidded container for the charcoal powder
  7. 2 sheets of Canson Mi-Tienes drawing paper, 8.5” x 11" (available in stores as a single sheets) in the color STEEL GREY. If you cannot find this size in store, the bigger sheet can be cut to size.
  8. A sketchbook of your choice.

Supplies are available through many online and retail outlets including Dick Blick, Amazon, or Michael’s.

Note: Designed for students age 16 and above with some drawing experience. Students should expect to dedicate time between sessions for practice exercises. For safety, masks are required until further notice. 

Drawing for Young Artists (age 12-16)

Being able to draw is the basis of any art form. In this class, young artists will explore their abilities and learn how to plan, compose, and draw a completed still life. Choose to either work from life or from a photograph. Using charcoal pencil on toned paper, focus on developing your fundamental skills while creating a successful piece with full value and correct perspective. Your final piece is sure to be a frame-worthy work of art. Course#  DRW104.321.01

What you will need for this course:

  • One Nitram Charcoal starter kit (sandpaper block, H stick, HB stick, B stick)
  • One kneaded eraser
  • One HB pencil
  • One sketchbook (minimum 9”x12”)

Acrylic Painting for Beginners

Note: Designed for ages 16 and above. All supplies are provided. 9"x12" canvases will be provided. Students may bring in larger canvases if desired. No class on 7/5/21.

Metalsmithing for Jewelry Fabrication

Design and create one-of-a-kind personalized jewelry. Explore jewelry fabrication using basic metalsmithing techniques. This four-week course will cover sawing, piercing, sanding, hand stamping, texturing, forming, and finishing. Each week you can create one or more unique pieces of copper or sterling silver jewelry. Projects may include earrings, pendants, bracelets, or rings. No experience necessary. Course# MTL100.321.01

Note: For ages 16 and above. Fee includes metal to complete at least four projects and access to the instructor’s studio tools and equipment.

Making Glass Swizzle Sticks

Adorn drinks with your very own handmade set of sparkling swizzle sticks. This “no experience necessary” workshop makes for a fun, creative experience or an easy introduction to the art of glass flameworking. Learn to make simple shapes and designs out of molten glass using a torch and then attach those designs to pre-made glass swizzle stick bases. Course# GLS101.321.01

Note: For ages 16 and above. All tools and materials provided. Your set of 6 swizzle sticks will be available within 48 hours for pick up. Please wear closed toe shoes, natural fiber clothing (no shorts), and secure long hair away from face.
