Copying the Masters - Online
with Tina Figarelli
Is there an artist you admire? Copying the work of one of the Great Masters like Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, or Picasso not only helps you to become a better artist, but is also a powerful way for you to begin to develop your own unique style.
In this new online course, choose one of your favorite artists/works of art and create an exact copy. Choose any drawing from your favorite artist or pick from one chosen by the instructor.
With instructor guidance, you’ll replicate (as much as possible) the drawing with the same materials, paper, and dimensions as the original. After the class, you will have a replica of your favorite piece to hang in your home.
Supplies may vary depending on the artist you choose -the instructor will reach out for questions. These are the basics:
- One Strathmore Artagain assorted toned sketchbook, 12” x1 8”
- One General’s Charcoal Pencil set (2B, 4B, 6B, white, and kneaded eraser) OR Nitram Charcoal starter kit (sandpaper block, H stick, HB stick, B stick)
- One HB pencil
- Optional: Tombow Dual Brush pen, dark grey
Supplies are available through many online and retail outlets including Dick Blick, Amazon, or Michael’s.
Note: Designed for students age 16 and above with some drawing experience. The course includes two instructional videos and two Zoom sessions with the instructor for guidance, helpful critique, and/or questions about your work. Videos are available beginning March 31. The live Zoom sessions are held April 7 and 14, 7-8:30 p.m.
