Beginning Wheel Throwing (Clay Lab) for 16+

This seven-week course will meet for 2.5 hours on Tuesdays. Learn how to create wheel thrown ceramics in this comprehensive seven-week course designed for both beginner and intermediate clay artists. You will learn to create cylinders/cups/bowl forms with attachments, such as handles for mugs and spouts for pitchers. The course will also cover trimming and a few handbuilding techniques that can be utilized during open studio hours. Toward the end of the course, different glazing demonstrations will be introduced to design the work created. Students can request to see demonstrations of more specific or advanced techniques. Throughout the duration of the class, students are eligible to use open studio hours Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun, 10:00am-4:00pm and Thursdays from 10 am-1:00pm. A total of 189 extra out of class hours Water Street Studios provides for you to create work out of class time.

 

Participants will learn how to wedge clay, safely store artwork, and glaze their pieces by dunking and brushing. This class will focus on quantity and repetition of practice to build the skill for quality.                    

This course can be repeated as needed.

  *Note: Designed for ages 16 and above. A 25-pound bag of clay, glazes and kiln firings are included in the course. Attempt to utilize open studio hours to continue to practice your skills.

Handbuilding (for 16+)(Clay Lab)

This seven-week course will meet for 2.5 hours on Tuesdays.

This handbuilding class will utilize slabs to create vases, lidded jars, cups, mugs, bowls and more.

  

Throughout the duration of the class, students are eligible to use open studio hours Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun, 10:00am-4:00pm and Thursdays from 10 am-1:00pm. A total of 189 extra out of class hours Water Street Studios provides for you to create work out of class time.

Advanced Wheel Throwing (for 16+) (Clay Lab)

This seven-week course will meet for 2.5 hours on Tuesdays. This course is for students who are looking to improve their wheel throwing skills while creating larger and lighter pieces with a better understanding of overall form.

Participants will be introduced to elaborate and detailed designs, textures, and forms with manipulation techniques to create one-of-a-kind items such as in teapots and 15-20" tall vessels by throwing separate forms and attaching them at leather hard. This class will be structured for quality over quantity.  Throughout the duration of the class, students are eligible to use open studio hours Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun, 10:00am-4:00pm and Thursdays from 10 am-1:00pm. A total of 189 extra out of class hours Water Street Studios provides for you to create work out of class time.

Homeschool Ceramics for Beginners (Clay Lab)

Supplement your curriculum with this ceramics course that is structured around hand building and wheel throwing! In this seven-week course students will learn how to create cylinders/cups/plates/bowl forms with attachments, including handles for mugs. 

Toward the end of the course, different glazing techniques will be demonstrated, allowing students to decorate and glaze the work created. The clay and glaze used is functional and microwave/dishwasher safe. Clay and glazes are included in the cost of the course.  

Note: Ages 8+, siblings encouraged. Clay, glazes, kiln firing provided.

Beginning Sculpture Conceptual Design & Creation (for 18 +) (3-D Lab)

Bring your artistic visions to the next level by learning the sculptural process from concept design to 3-D casting from a professional artist. 

This is a beginning level sculpture design class. In this seven-week course students will learn the process of sculpture creation. Students will learn how to create conceptual drawings and then translate these drawings into their own unique 3-D sculptures. Student drawings and sketches will be made to better visualize ideas in 2-D before the sculpting process begins. By week three students will begin the process of translating their concept drawings into actual 3-D sculptures. The remainder of the course will focus on sculpture creation.

Art materials provided included in class registration including gloves, sculpting tools, artist's sketch diary, pencils, sculpting blocks, safety glasses, dust masks, and modeling compound. Sculptures created will be made from Apoxie Sculpt Modeling Compound.

This 4-week, 7 meetups will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 2.5 hours each class. This beginning wheel throwing course introduces the fundamental skills needed to create wheel thrown forms: cups, bowls, small vase forms. Trimming, carving, and adding handles are introduced to create more unique and individualized pieces. We will not have class on November 24th.

Participants will learn how to wedge clay, safely store artwork, and glaze their pieces by dunking and brushing. This class will focus on quantity and repetition of practice to build the skill for quality.
