ART CAMP: Color Theory for Kids (North Classroom)(Ages 9-12)
with Alyssa Meadowcroft

Join the Summertime fun with this Color Theory Art Camp!
The class introduces students to color harmony and science while encouraging individual creativity! This class will take place almost entirely outside. In each class, students will work alongside the instructor, Alyssa Meadowcroft, to learn how color theory can relate to the outdoors and found objects. The students should be leaving with three finished paintings and a closer understanding as to how color theory relates to the world.
This is a five-day class. Here is the schedule:
Day 1: Using a simple color wheel we will do a color wheel nature hunt. In this activity we will walk around Water Street Studios gathering up found objects to create a full color wheel. This will help relate colors to the space around you.
Day 2: Using the found objects from day 1 along with additional found objects we will create a “painting” using those objects. This “painting” should be well composed using a range of the found colors. This teaches you how to create a painting using different mediums.
Day 3: This day we will be working on color matching. Going around outside each student will find an object that they would like to recreate the color within their own paint. Alyssa will work closely with each student to achieve a color that is as close as possible.
Day 4: Using a found object we will paint it with detail within the time given. Matching the object as closely as possible and concentrating on how the light is bouncing off the object. This will teach students how to view the science of colors in an everyday object.
Day 5: For our last day we will sit outside and paint a scene. Everyone will be painting the same general area but from different angles. We will then view everyone’s painting, seeing how everyone perceives the colors differently.
This Class registration fee includes Color Theory Painting Art Kit for kids ($40.00) which includes: Acrylic Paint set, Acrylic Brush Set, Palette Knife, Disposable Palettes, White Glue, Cloth's Pins, Pencils, Notebook, 3 Canvas Painting boards 8 x 10.
