Ceramics Camp / Session 1(Clay Lab)(Ages 7 - 12)

Calendar Jun 3, 2024 at 9 am, runs for 2 weeks

This two-week ceramics kids camp will meet from 9 am-12 pm and includes clay and glazes.

Camps will create an assortment of cups, bowls, plates, mugs, vases, bird houses, birdbaths, cookie jars, etc. during the first week of camp. The second week we will throw on the wheel, make pendants, and magnets while glazing our projects from the first week.

The Friday of the second week we will have a showcase of our work where families can come at 11am to see all the work the students made while they talk about their work and the processes used.

*Students should bring a closeable water bottle, snack, and small hand towel. No nuts please.

This course can be repeated as needed.

Note: Designed for ages 7-12, siblings encouraged. Clay, glazes, and Kiln firings included.

Travel the world through ART this summer in this amazing Art camp!

Let us travel around the world and create an accordion book inspired by different countries. We will learn different arts from around the world while using a variety of mediums such as paint, collage, printmaking, colored pencils, markers, pencils, and bookmaking, of course!

Students will explore and discover:

The Write Place : Creative Writing Camp(North Classroom) (Ages 13 - 18)

Welcome to Creative Writing Camp for teens!

This camp is a one-week  creative writing camp designed exclusively for young writers who are eager to explore the depths of their imagination and hone their literary skills. At our camp, participants will embark on an exhilarating journey where creativity knows no bounds.

Over the course of five days, budding writers will immerse themselves in a vibrant atmosphere filled with inspiration, camaraderie, and endless opportunities to unleash their creative writing prowess. The adventure begins when campers step through the door!

*Please purchase and bring a writing journal and pen to the first class, your choice of style.

Class Schedule will be 4:30 - 6:30pm pm M - TH

Final Class Celebration Saturday 1:00 - 3:00pm; families invited

You will embark on a quest to uncover the secrets of exceptional writing, discovering the hallmarks of quality creative expression along the way. Each day will be brimming with excitement as students dive into a variety of engaging activities. From thought-provoking writing prompts to exhilarating group discussions, every moment will be an opportunity to ignite the spark of imagination and cultivate your unique voice.  As the week progresses, campers will have the chance to share their creations with their peers, offering feedback, support, and encouragement in a nurturing environment. Through constructive critique and lively discussions, you will learn the art of giving and receiving feedback, refining their skills with each interaction.

Then comes the pinnacle moment—the culmination of a weeks hard work and creativity. On the fourth day, our dedicated instructor will compile their writings into a beautiful class booklet(Included with registration), preserving student collective achievements. On the final day of class, we'll celebrate student success with a signing party and read-aloud celebration, where each participant will receive a keepsake book to cherish forever.

This session of Creative Writing Camp isn't just a camp—it's a celebration of young creative talent, a sanctuary where imagination reigns supreme, and where every voice is valued and heard. Join us for an unforgettable week filled with laughter, inspiration, and the boundless joy of storytelling. Because here, at our camp, everyone truly is a writer.

Ceramics for Young Artists (Ages 12 - 15) (Clay Lab)

Young artists will be introduced to the world of ceramics with this comprehensive four-week class that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:45 pm to 4:15 pm. This class is tailored to first-time students who have little to no prior experience working with clay. Throughout the course, they will have the opportunity to make cups, bowls, mugs, plates, and small vases with hand-building and wheel throwing. They will learn how to trim, add handles and feet, and utilize a handful of decoration techniques from carving to glazing.

Participants will learn skills such as wedging clay using the slab roller, extruder, and pottery wheel, and proper artwork storage. Emphasizing repetition of action, this class aims to create an understanding of how to throw on the pottery wheel.

Note: A 25-pound bag of clay, glazes and kiln firings are included in the course. Participants will learn how to wedge clay, safely store artwork, and glaze their pieces by dunking and brushing. This class will focus on quantity and repetition of practice to build the skill for quality.

This course can be repeated as needed to build and refine skills.

Beginning Wheel Throwing (Clay Lab)

This class is an introduction to the world of wheel-thrown ceramics. This comprehensive four-week class  meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm. This class is tailored to first-time students who have little to no prior experience working with clay. Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to make cups, bowls, mugs, and small vases. We will learn how to trim our work, add handles, and utilize a handful of decoration techniques from carving to glazing.

Additionally, students will have access to open studio hours on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, providing a total of 84 extra hours for independent work outside of class. *All Students using lab hours must clean up and  leave Clay Lab by 4pm when the building closes to the public.

Participants will also learn skills such as reclaiming and wedging clay, along with proper artwork storage. Emphasizing repetition of action, this class aims to create an understanding of how to throw on the pottery wheel.

*This course can be repeated as needed to refine skills.

 A 25-pound bag of clay, glazes and kiln firings are included in the course. Attempt to utilize open studio hours to continue to practice your skills.

Jumpstart your Creative Writing (North Classroom)

Have you ever wanted to learn different ways to approach creative writing?

Here is your chance, join this four-week workshop and get started with your own creative writing projects. This four-week class will be taught by experienced writing instructors Barbara Barrows and Eric Bodwell. 

In this course, participants will explore four different methods for accessing their creativity and generating new writing. 

The methods will include:

  • Mining your life and experiences
  • Responding to art
  • Working with constraints
  • Remixing source material to create new creative works!

This class is for everyone 14+ who wants to learn the art of creative writing. Students, please purchase and bring a writing notebook, and a pen to the first class. 

Each class, students will use creative prompts, exercises, discussion, and examples to create short pieces that might lead to journal entries, poems, personal essays, and/ or short fiction.

*Class can be repeated to further develop skills.
