Adobe Illustrator - Private Instruction

Whether you're a novice, need help with a special project, or wish to sharpen your skill with Illustrator you can learn how to create original vector illustrations. Instruction will cover object drawing tools, colors, layers, templates, pathfinder, the oh-so-difficult pen tool, and more! Instruction will follow a lesson plan, or can be customized to your needs. 

Fee includes three hours of private instruction (typically split it into two, 1.5 hr. sessions) - times to be arranged directly with the instructor. Students must provide their own laptop and software  https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/plans.html

Your instructor, Lisa Youngdahl, is a graphic designer with over 30 years of experience and a Resident Artist at Water Street Studios. 

She is the owner of Resolution Creative and has 15 years of experience teaching digital/graphic design at the College of DuPage, Waubonsee Community College, and Elgin Community College. She is currently an instructor at Elmhurst University.

Have you ever wanted to learn different ways to approach creative writing?

Here is your chance, join this four-week workshop and get started with your own creative writing projects. This four-week class will be taught by experienced writing instructors Barbara Barrows and Eric Bodwell. 

In this course, participants will explore four different methods for accessing their creativity and generating new writing. 

The methods will include:

  • Mining your life and experiences
  • Responding to art
  • Working with constraints
  • Remixing source material to create new creative works!

This class is for everyone 14+ who wants to learn the art of creative writing. Students, please purchase and bring a writing notebook, and a pen to the first class. 

Each class, students will use creative prompts, exercises, discussion, and examples to create short pieces that might lead to journal entries, poems, personal essays, and/ or short fiction.

*Class can be repeated to further develop skills.

Wings and Flight: Full STEAM Ahead Kids Workshop Series(North Classroom)

Does your child love Science and Art? Join this one day STEAM workshop for kids 7- 11.

As part of a series of STEAM related art activities, this class combines creative thinking, problem solving and cooperative learning as students use simple materials to design, build and test their flying machines.

Students are given the materials and attachment techniques will be explored. Then they are allowed to come up with any solution that works, through trial and error, to create their own flying machines. Students will bring their creations home.

      Students should bring to class their imagination and curiosity!

Introduction to Color Pencil Drawing( North Classroom)*new class

This class is a five week comprehensive introduction to colored pencil drawing techniques. Students will learn techniques for drawing using colored pencil, to achieve beautiful painterly effects. Students will leave class with new colored pencil drawing skills and finished works of art. For 16+

Curriculum will include:

  • How to use different drawing strokes to achieve results.
  • How to effectively layer colors for painterly techniques
  • How to use Color Theory to increase the drama of your artwork.
  • and more! 

Starting with an underlaying drawing, the blending of layers of color will give a painterly quality to the drawings. Students will learn about additional tools that will help achieve the desired effects to their drawing. Students will start with a tutorial lesson, then students will work on their own drawings with the guidance of the instructor.

Students should bring references and ideas for drawings they would like to create.

*If a repeat session is offered, it could be ongoing for students to continue their projects and refine their drawing skills.

Woodland Watercolor Painting - Spring wildflowers (North Classroom)

Enjoy nature at its best this Spring and celebrate the season with this introduction to watercolor class focused on using the spring woodland as subject matter, this class is perfect for beginners to intermediate students. 

In this nature study class students will learn to identify,  sketch then watercolor local Spring wildflowers found in the woodlands of our area. Jill Adzia, Morton Arboretum Nature Artist will lead you on an artistic exploration of these special and unique plants. 

Students will learn a variety of watercolor and watercolor pencil techniques including:

  • Color Mixing
  • Creating Watercolor Washes
  • Understanding positive and negative space
  • Understanding composition

*This watercolor class is for anyone interested in learning the step by step basics of landscape watercolor painting. 

Please purchase basic watercolor supplies needed for first class:
